DLA Piper has a Global Board that is chaired by Francis (Frank) B. Burch, Jr. Senator George J. Mitchell is Chairman Emeritus. Our Joint CEOs are Lee I. Miller, based in the United States, and Nigel Knowles, who is based in the United Kingdom.

Frank Burch, formerly Joint CEO of the firm, assumed the role of Global Chairman on January 1, 2009. He has helped lead the evolution of what was then Piper & Marbury, a regional firm based in Maryland with 250 lawyers, to DLA Piper, now the largest law firm in the world with over 3,700 lawyers in 65 offices around the world and revenue approaching $2.5 billion.

Senator George Mitchell is the firm’s Global Chairman Emeritus. Mitchell was recently named by TIME as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. He has been helping to create a better world for nearly three decades, from his distinguished tenure in the Senate, including six years as the Senate majority leader, to his groundbreaking peace efforts in Northern Ireland. Upon leaving the Senate, the Senator returned to the practice of law, eventually joining DLA Piper in 2003.

Nigel Knowles is Joint Chief Executive Officer of DLA Piper. Nigel Knowles has been managing partner of DLA Piper since 1996 and in that time has led its growth from a regional UK law firm to what is now the world's largest legal services organisation. Globally, DLA Piper has a turnover in excess of £1bn.

Lee I. Miller is Joint Chief Executive Officer of DLA Piper and a member of the firm's Executive Committee and Global Board. For nearly 30 years, Mr. Miller has concentrated his practice in the area of commercial real estate law.
