Paul is a partner and is based in DLA Piper's Hong Kong office. He has a broad background in banking and finance specialising in:
- Complex cross-border financings
- Acquisition finance
- Syndicated loans and project finance
- Receivables financing, cash management arrangements and vendor financing involving a number of jurisdictions such as England, Hong Kong, PRC, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Laos and the Philippines.

- Advised Modern Terminals Limited and Modern Terminals Finance Limited on its HK$6 billion revolving credit/term loan facility arranged by The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited
- Advised SOHO China Limited on its US$555 million syndicated loan arranged by HSBC and Standard Chartered Bank
- Advised Fortune Oil on its US$180 million term loan facility arranged by Morgan Stanley Bank International (China) Limited
- Advised Solargiga Energy Holdings Limited on its US$75 million term loan facility arranged by BNP Paribas Hong Kong Branch and Industrial Bank of Taiwan
- Advised Agricultural Bank of China and ABCI Capital Limited as joint lead managers on a RMB600 million bond issue by China Chengtong Development Group Limited
- Advised China Development Bank, Hong Kong Branch on its Can$1.9 billion loan facilities to China National Petroleum Corporation for the acquisition of oil sands assets in Alberta, Canada
- Advised Carlyle Group on the US$105 million acquisition finance facility from HSBC for the acquisition of the entire business of Boto International Holdings Limited (a Hong Kong listed company) a Christmas tree manufacturer based in Hong Kong/PRC
- Advised CNOOC on the Hong Kong law governed US$6 billion loan arrangements for the acquisition of UNOCAL
- Advised Smart Triumph on the financing aspects of its HK$4.22 billion hostile takeover bid for China Oriental, a company listed in Hong Kong
- Advised Ayala Land (a Philippine conglomerate) and a subsidiary of another Philippine property developer on their acquisition of secured debt as part of a scheme to acquire control of the Fort Bonifacio property development project in the Philippines
- Advised Polytec Holdings Limited on the acquisition finance aspects of its general offer for shares in Kowloon Development Company Limited, a company listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong including its HK$1.5 billion acquisition finance facility
- Advised Huawei Technologies in relation to a telecommunications project in Nigeria
- Advised Industrial and Commercial Bank of China on a combined facility of HK$14.8 billion to GH Water Supply (Holdings) Limited and its subsidiary Guangdong Yue Gang Water Supply Company Limited (one of the largest financings in Asia in 2002 and one of the largest HK dollar financings on record)
- Advised Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Asia) Limited on its HK$1.73 billion loan to Lasalle to finance a property development in Macau
- Advised Japanese National Oil Corporation as potential guarantor in relation to the US$750 million financing of the ongoing development and operation of an oil and gas field in the Middle East
- Advised the Lenders in relation to the project finance facilities for a hydro electricity power project in Laos
- Advised PWC as Administrators of Maxwell Communications Corporation PLC on the Scheme of Arrangement for creditors, the first ever scheme to enable a distribution of assets under combined English and US insolvency rules
- Advised various banks on their exposures to the collapse of the Peregrine Investment Bank Group of companies
- Advised Industrial and Commercial Bank of China on the Hong Kong banking regulatory aspects of its IPO
- Advised ABN AMRO Bank on regulatory issues in respect of the enforcement of security arising out of a PRC financing structure involving a Hong Kong listed company
- Advised Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation on certain insurance and guarantee arrangements
