Betsy Karmin, a Partner in DLA Piper's Washington, DC office, concentrates her practice on a broad range of commercial real estate transactions, including leasing, financing, development, restructuring, acquisitions and sales.

Ms. Karmin represents landlords and tenants in urban and suburban office building and shopping center leasing, including ground leases and multi-floor office leases, as well as lenders and borrowers for complex construction, permanent and mezzanine financing. She also represents a national franchiser in structuring complex air rights and redevelopment projects, as well as a solar energy company for real estate acquisitions. Ms. Karmin also has extensive experience representing institutional investors in making equity investments.

In December, 2011, Ms. Karmin was selected as one of Washington, DC's "Legal Elite" by SmartCEO magazine. She is currently President-Elect of the Washington, DC Chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women. Ms. Karmin serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for theatreWashington, and on the Board of Directors of Goodwill of Greater Washington. In addition to private practice, Ms. Karmin served as General Counsel for a company developing centers to provide the laser vision correction procedure throughout the US and Canada.
