Brad Markoff is a member of the firm's Real Estate Capital Markets practice, Co-Chair of the National REIT practice group and the Managing Partner of the Raleigh office. He is well known for his experience in complex financing transactions, including business rollups and strategic investments in a wide variety of industry segments such as REITs and financial institutions.
In his practice, Mr. Markoff regularly handles a wide range of corporate and real estate finance, securities, corporate governance and mergers and acquisitions matters, and he has worked closely with many of the nation's major investment banking firms. Mr. Markoff has been very active in legislative initiatives in the REIT industry in both the United States and throughout Asia.
Mr. Markoff is currently a member of the Board of Advisors of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT) and immediate past co-chair of NAREIT's Governmental Regulation Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Subcommittee. As a part of his role as committee co-chair, Mr. Markoff has led the drafting of NAREIT's various responses to the SEC rule making proposals. He is a frequent speaker on topics related to REITs and mergers and acquisitions. He has been a speaker at five Law and Accounting Conferences sponsored by NAREIT and at the New York University REIT Symposium. Mr. Markoff is a past co-chair of NAREIT's Law & Accounting Conference. Over the past 18 months, Mr. Markoff has been a frequent speaker throughout Asia, including the People’s Republic of China on worldwide REIT initiatives and best practices.
Mr. Markoff also serves as a member of the Board of Governors of the Asian Public Real Estate Association (APREA) and is a member of its Regulatory and Legislative Committee. In his dual role on both NAREIT’s and APREA’s Board of Governors, he serves as a liaison between the United States and the Asian REIT Industries.
He has recently published an article in Standard & Poors Securities Regulation Report on Hostile Takeovers of REITs and is currently working on a REIT treatise for the Practising Law Institute.
The respected English publisher Chambers & Partners names Mr. Markoff in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business and has noted he is "highly endorsed" for his "valuable contributions, from a business and legal standpoint, on complex REIT finance matters." He has been named in The Best Lawyers in America.
