Brenda Meister represents clients before the US Congress and the executive branch, including the White House and federal agencies. She has extensive experience in corporate, international and legislative matters.
Ms. Meister represents a major global hotel company on legislative and regulatory issues. She also has represented the Governments of India, Cyprus, Cote d'Ivoire, Haiti, Puerto Rico, The Bahamas and Taiwan before the US Congress and the Bush, Clinton and Obama Administrations. Since March 2002, she has represented the Transitional Islamic Government of Afghanistan on a pro bono basis. In addition, she has represented and worked with groups on international human rights issues, including advocating for women's and children's rights.
Ms. Meister makes a significant contribution to pro bono. In addition to Afghanistan, she recently traveled to Africa in collaboration with AIDS-Free World, an international advocacy organization, to document and publicize politically motivated human rights abuses against Zimbabwean women. Her assistance was vital in the production of the human rights report detailing the team's findings: "Electing to Rape: Sexual Terror in Mugabe's Zimbabwe." The report was officially released at a press conference in Johannesburg, South Africa. Ms. Meister continues to assist with advocacy strategies to help bring awareness to the human rights abuses in Zimbabwe.
Her professional relationships include senior officials in the US government, the Administration, and members and senior staff of the US Congress, particularly those serving on committees dealing with foreign affairs, tax and appropriations issues.
In addition to serving in the White House under the first Bush Administration, she has held senior-level positions at the US Department of Justice, the National Transportation Safety Board, and a major US corporation.
In 1988, Ms. Meister left private practice to work on the Bush/Quayle presidential campaign. After the election she served as a member of President Bush's transition team and continued her service in the White House Office of Presidential Personnel. She went on to serve the President at the National Transportation Safety Board and the US Department of Justice. Following her public service, Ms. Meister worked for a government and public affairs firm, where she represented a number of multinational clients on transportation, tax and appropriations related issues.
Ms. Meister began her career at United Airlines as assistant vice president of government and public affairs, where she worked with members of Congress, regulatory agencies and the Department of Transportation.
Ms Meister works with several local and international charitable and non-profit organizations, with a focus on advocating on behalf of youth and women's issues.
