DLA Piper’s Renee Glover Chantler receives California Lawyer Angel Award

Press Release

(East Palo Alto) – DLA Piper today announced that Renee Glover Chantler, the firm’s West Coast pro bono manager, has received a California Lawyer Angel Award. She was recognized in the publication’s December issue.

Chantler was instrumental in facilitating the firm’s contribution of more than 1,800 pro bono attorney hours to low-income clients through Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto (CLSEPA) in 2006. It is estimated that the firm’s 2007 pro bono contribution will be similar to last year’s.

In addition to working on her own cases, Chantler also mentors and supervises attorneys in pro bono legal work with other nonprofits and helps match the firm’s attorneys to a variety of pro bono work, including long-running, complex cases in the areas of real estate fraud and title stripping.

“We are very excited that Renee has been recognized by California Lawyer for her outstanding work within the pro bono community,” said Andrew Valentine, Managing Partner of the firm’s East Palo Alto office. “We congratulate her on this well-deserved honor and believe she will continue to set a powerful example for all of our attorneys and staff.”

The publication’s second annual Angel Awards issue honors “California lawyers who demonstrate a fierce commitment to pro bono work.” The 2007 awards recognize 20 attorneys throughout the state for a wide range of pro bono work, from the protection of children’s rights to merging behavioral-health nonprofits. Winners are selected from nominations submitted by nonprofit organizations statewide and from the publication’s own reporting.
