Christopher G. Campbell, a partner in DLA Piper's global Litigation practice, focuses in the areas of mass tort, product liability and commercial litigation.

Mr. Campbell has experience in all phases of state and federal litigation, including discovery, depositions, motion practice, Daubert hearings, jury trials, arbitrations and appeals. He has represented many of DLA Piper's top clients, among them leading pharmaceutical, automotive and insurance companies. In addition, Mr. Campbell acts as US litigation counsel for international clients and regularly consults in the areas of risk management, employment law, intellectual property, contract litigation and other commercial areas.

Mr. Campbell earned his J.D. at Harvard Law School in 2000, where he was an executive editor of the Harvard Negotiation Law Review and a line editor of the International Law Journal and the Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review. He also served as treasurer of the Harvard Law School Civil Liberties Union.

In 1997, Mr. Campbell graduated summa cum laude from Austin Peay State University (Clarksville, Tennessee), where he earned B.S. degrees in philosophy and English. In November 2002, Mr. Campbell was named the Austin Peay Outstanding Young Alumnus of the Year.

Recent Significant Representations

  • Drafted briefs on behalf of a global pharmaceutical manufacturer resulting in favorable Daubert decision excluding general causation opinions in numerous cases pending in federal multi-district litigation and New York state court
  • Successfully defended a global automobile manufacturer in a jury trial in New York State Court, which resulted in a directed verdict
  • Successfully defended a global pharmaceutical manufacturer in a US$25 million product liability action in California state court
  • Counsel for a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer in nationwide product liability matters involving popular anti-inflammatory medications
  • Successfully defended a global automobile manufacturer in a product liability action in the US District Court for the Western District of New York
  • Successfully defended a leading heavy equipment manufacturer in Daubert hearings and a jury trial in the US District Court for the Northern District of New York
  • Successfully defended a leading domestic automotive manufacturer in a US$30 million product liability action in the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York and in a US$10 million product liability action in New York state court

  • Viramontes v. Pfizer, Inc., 2008 WL 2477443,*1 (Cal. Ct. App. June 20, 2008), affirming summary judgment in pharmaceutical product liability claim based on inadequacy of plaintiff's expert evidence
  • In re: Bextra and Celebrex Marketing Sales Practices and Prod. Liab. Litig., 524 F.Supp. 2d 1166, 2007 WL 4170276, *1 (N.D. Cal. Nov. 19, 2007), excluding as unreliable any expert opinions that pain medication causes heart attacks and strokes at most commonly prescribed dose
  • Polidoro v. Chubb Corp., 386 F. Supp. 2d 334 (S.D.N.Y. 2005), granting motion to dismiss a plaintiff’s claims in a bad faith insurance claim
  • Zaremba v. Gen. Motors Corp., 360 F.3d 355 (2d Cir. 2004), affirming summary judgment and excluding expert testimony under Daubert in a catastrophic, multi-plaintiff rollover crash
  • N.Y. Mut. Cent. Mut. Fire Ins. Co. v. Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., 2004 WL 2643172, *1 (W.D.N.Y. Nov. 18, 2004), granting summary judgment in an automobile fire case based on the inadequacy of the plaintiff's expert evidence to establish product defect

  • Figueroa v. Gallager, 20 A.D.3d 385, 798 N.Y.S.2d 143 (2d Dep't 2005), reversing trial court and granting summary judgment in favor of General Motors based on inadequacy of plaintiff’s expert testimony
