Cynthia A. Ricketts has extensive experience in general litigation matters, particularly complex commercial litigation. She has served as lead or co-lead counsel in complex litigation matters involving director and officer liability, fraud, racketeering, securities fraud, failed thrifts, breach of contract, breach of warranty, trade secrets, breach of non-compete and anti-solicitation agreements, unfair competition, employment discrimination, wrongful termination, product liability, receiverships, construction disputes, homeowner association disputes, class actions, toxic torts, copyright infringement, Internet disputes and business valuation disputes, and involving the Satellite Home Viewer Act, the Satellite Home Viewer Improvement Act, the Automated Clearing House (ACH) rules and regulations and the Unlawful Gambling Act of 2006.

Her experience also includes participation in trial teams in complex commercial and tort litigation matters involving multiple parties and multiple districts. She has substantial experience in motion practice, appellate practice, jury and bench trial, arbitration and injunctive relief.

Ms. Ricketts has been lead counsel on several arbitration matters and has been an active participant in court-sponsored mediations. She has drafted mediation agreements and arbitration clauses and alternative dispute resolution provisions for contracts. She has also served as a court-appointed arbitrator in several matters.

Her cross-border dispute experience includes:

  • An arbitration before the London Court of International Arbitration on behalf of a direct-broadcast satellite company against a consortium of insurance companies involving coverage of a satellite's solar array that failed after launch
  • The dismissal of a dispute filed in Arizona state court against a leading title insurance company related to a license it obtained from the Government of China (an action that should have been brought in China instead)
  • An arbitration, before the International Centre for Dispute Resolution of the American Arbitration Association, in which a foreign company involved in Internet gambling sought the return of more than $12 million dollars held by a payment processing company

Ms. Ricketts is a recognized NITA instructor who has taught both trial skills and deposition skills. She attends and participates in a number of women network associations and events. She has spoken often at seminars and authored articles appearing in local publications.

In Fall 2011, Ms. Ricketts will serve as an adjunct professor at Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, teaching the "Technology in the Courtroom" course.

In 2011, Ranking Arizona Magazine named her among the Best of Arizona Business in the areas of alternative dispute resolution, commercial litigation, and product liability law. In 2010, Ranking Arizona Magazine named her among the Best of Arizona Business in the area of commercial litigation. In 2009, AZ Business magazine named Ms. Ricketts to its "Top Lawyers List" in the commercial litigation category. She has twice been named an Arizona Super Lawyer in business litigation. In 2004, she received the Boss of the Year award from the Phoenix Legal Support Association. Today's Arizona Woman named her to its list of "Who's Who in Business 2003."

Ms. Ricketts was also quoted in an article in The National Law Review entitled "Victory in New Mexico Voter Registration Case: New Mexico Settles Lawsuit, Agrees to Offer Voter Registration to Public Assistance Clients," regarding a pro bono case she was involved in.

Ms. Ricketts is the Pro Bono Coordinator for the Phoenix office.
