DLA Piper and the Leadership Alliance for Women (LAW) are celebrating Women’s History Month with a series of events throughout March. “For nearly 30 years, Women’s History Month has been observed in communities, libraries and schools to honor the extraordinary achievements of American women. At DLA Piper, we will join with our colleagues, clients and friends to celebrate women’s many contributions to the practice of law with a series of events throughout the country,” said DLA Piper Senior Manager of Diversity & Inclusion, Genhi Givings Bailey. DLA Piper’s month-long program will include 15 events in the firm’s offices nationwide – all designed to celebrate women in the law, strengthen the community within DLA Piper and with clients, encourage business development and advance the firm’s commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace for all. Activities include a luncheon with former AIG General Counsel, and current DLA Piper partner, Anastasia Kelly in Baltimore; a reception with Avon General Counsel Kim Rucker in New York; a luncheon and book reading with Carla Powers, Worldwide Head of Litigation for Royal Dutch Shell and author of Matches in the Gas Tank; and a reception with a keynote address by Judge Mary Schroeder, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in Phoenix. The San Francisco office will also host a discussion focused on how successful women in the legal arena are making their mark while staying true to their authentic selves. Panelists include Michelle Banks, Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary and Chief Compliance Officer, GAP Inc.; Drucilla Ramey, Dean, Golden Gate University School of Law; Mona Sabet, Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Coverity, Inc.; and Jamienne Studley, President and CEO, Public Advocates Inc. DLA Piper is committed to giving back to local communities, and with that in mind, the Philadelphia office is hosting a reception with Dress for Success, an international non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of women through professional clothing donations and employment retention programs. Attendees at the "Suit Tales" event have been asked to bring an item of business clothing to donate, and to include a message of inspiration in one of the pockets. They will be asked to share those messages at the event. The Chicago office is also hosting a charitable event: “repack night” with clients at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Volunteer hours will benefit Deborah’s Place, a local homeless shelter for women. DLA Piper announced today that Roger W. Rosendahl has joined the firm’s corporate and finance practices as a partner in the New York and Los Angeles offices.
Coming to DLA Piper from the New York and Los Angeles offices of Kaye Scholer, LLP, Mr. Rosendahl’s practice focuses on corporate, finance and securities transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, project and structured finance and restructuring, energy, commercial and international arbitration and mediation as well as general corporate counseling.
Mr. Rosendahl’s mergers and acquisitions experience includes representation of acquirers, targets, investors and investment banks in public and private mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buy-outs, acquisition financing, corporate restructuring and acquisitions out of bankruptcy in a wide variety of industries, including telecommunication, transportation, manufacturing, mining, textiles, asset management and commodities.
His global project finance and privatization experience includes representation of project sponsors, developers, commercial banks, investment banks, underwriters, sovereigns and borrowers in a wide variety of project financing and privatization transactions, including industrial development projects, infrastructure, natural resources, transportation, including ship finance and restructuring, telecommunications and energy. Mr. Rosendahl’s energy and power experience includes representation of independent power projects and developers and private equity funds as well as financial institutions, both domestic and foreign, and encompasses all major sources of power, including oil and gas, coal- and gas-fired facilities, transmission and renewable resources including wind, solar, geothermal and biofuels. He is experienced in the utilization of government agency, export credit agency and multilateral financing programs.

A frequent author and speaker, Mr. Rosendahl is a member of the Energy Law Committee, and has served on the Project Finance Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He was the founding chairman of the Asia-Pacific Law Committee of the American Bar Association Section of International Law and Practice and a co-founder and initial Council Member of the United States of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association. He is a member of the International Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association and served on the Foreign Services Advisory Committee to the US Trade Representative, where he was a principal draftsman of the United States position on the Japan Foreign Lawyers Law.
Previously, Rosendahl was a partner with Kaye Scholer LLP, where he had previously headed its Energy practice in New York.
He received an A.B., cum laude, from the University of Southern California and a J.D. from Georgetown University.
DLA Piper advised Fuji Television Network, Inc. on its recent re-acquisition of media rights within Japan to the FIA Formula One World Championship. The deal was led by partner Nick Fitzpatrick and associate Patrick Mitchell from DLA Piper's Sports team. Fuji Television is a long standing client of DLA Piper's. Nick has advised the company for several years on their Formula One rights. Commenting on the deal Nick Fitzpatrick said: "We are always delighted to be involved in Fuji Television's operations, and are proud to have played a part in this new arrangement." Masanari Funaki, Associate Executive Director, speaking on behalf of Fuji Television, said: "We are delighted to continue broadcasting Formula One on Fuji TV in Japan. DLA Piper is delighted to have successfully advised Elysian Capital and its portfolio company English Landscapes, on the acquisition of Western Landscapes Limited (trading as "Wyevale Grounds Maintenance"). Wyevale Grounds Maintenance provides hard and soft landscaping and grounds maintenance services. The company operates from 10 sites around the country and has major contracts with the local authorities of the Isle of Wight, Lewes, Eastbourne, Stroud and North Somerset. Wyevale Grounds Maintenance has displayed a consistent level of profitability and cash generation with turnover of approximately £6 million per annum over the last three years. The deal is an excellent opportunity for Elysian to acquire a well known horticultural brand with a high degree of contracted forward revenue expanding the contracted grounds maintenance base of the enlarged group, as well as strengthening its presence in the West of England and along the South coast. Malcolm MacDougall, a corporate partner at DLA Piper advised on the deal. DLA Piper is pleased to announce that Iris Sung has joined the firm's Asia Regulatory practice as a senior associate. She joins DLA Piper's Hong Kong office from Nortel Networks where she was Director of Compliance for Greater China. From 2004 to 2007, Iris had been Regulatory Manager for Competition Affairs for the Hong Kong Office of the Telecommunications Authority ("OFTA"). Iris will be working with the corporate compliance and investigations team and with the firm's Greater China competition team led by partner, David Cox. "To keep their edge, businesses need to stay abreast of the increasing changes across Asia's regulatory landscape. DLA Piper announced today that a group of 9 lawyers will join the firm's Sacramento office on April 2, 2010. Four will be partners who will bring a thriving health care practice to DLA Piper. Stephen Goff will lead this team, which includes partners John Barnes, Daniela Almeida and Brian Taylor. The lawyers join DLA Piper from McDonough Holland & Allen PC.
The arriving group brings a broad and diverse base of litigation, transactional and regulatory experience in health care matters for several of the largest health care systems that operate in California.
"Steve, Daniela, John and Brian are valuable additions to DLA Piper, as they are among the most highly regarded lawyers in their field," said David Gross, regional chair of DLA Piper's US Litigation practice. "They are at the forefront of the hot issues facing major hospitals and health care providers and will be tremendous resources for our clients in this area."
This group represents the latest move in the continued expansion of DLA Piper's health care capabilities, which also includes the recent addition of Senator Tom Daschle.

About the New Partners
Stephen Goff, formerly the lead attorney in McDonough's Health Care practice group, focuses on contract and quasi-contract disputes between health care providers and payers. He has acted as lead trial counsel in a wide variety of disputes and assists health care clients in developing contractual and operational strategies.
Serving as the principal outside legal advisor for some of the largest health care providers in California and nationwide, Goff has led specialized teams of lawyers in all aspects of litigations between providers and health plans, negotiating large managed care contracts, responding to Congressional and other government investigations, developing compliant systems to improve revenue cycle management, and handling the numerous types of commercial disputes that arise in the context of these businesses. He has also worked with business teams on hospital acquisitions and spin-offs, large physical group acquisitions and network development, and hospital and ancillary site development and construction.
He received a J.D. from the University of California, Boalt Hall School of Law and a B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of California, Davis.
Daniela Almeida's practice includes a broad range of complex heath care litigation matters, including a matter springing from a spin-off of a hospital from an integrated health care delivery system, health care insurance bad faith cases, managed care disputes and disputes between health plans and non-contracted providers.
She received a J.D. from the University of California, Davis School of Law and a B.A., from Willamette College.
John Barnes' practice focuses on complex managed care litigation, including risk contracting, capitation and fee-for-service reimbursement, collection practices and network access. He counsels health care entities on issues concerning federal and state regulatory compliance, charity and indigent care, contract termination, continuity of care and business office practices. He also has significant experience representing health care entities subpoenaed by the government to produce information on indigent care, chargemaster pricing and self-pay discounts.
He received a J.D., with distinction, from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and a B.A. from the University of California, San Diego.
Brian Taylor advises hospitals, health systems, medical foundations, IPAs and physician groups on a variety of business and litigation issues. He has been active in complex contractual disputes between health care providers and health care service plans. He has also represented providers in a broad range of lawsuits, including actions involving hospital liens, uninsured/indigent policies, reasonableness of charges, coding for services, unfair competition and medical device defects.
He received a J.D., with distinction, from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and a B.A. from Brigham Young University.
George South, Frank Pepler and Bennett Silverberg bolster coast-to-coast practice
DLA Piper announced today that George B. South III, Frank Pepler and Bennett Silverberg have joined the firm’s Restructuring practice. South and Silverberg will be based in New York – DLA Piper’s largest US office with more than 200 lawyers – while Pepler will be based in San Francisco. Former AIG vice chairman and general counsel bolsters firm's corporate governance capabilities
DLA Piper announced today that Anastasia “Stasia” Kelly has joined the firm’s Washington, DC office as Of Counsel. Kelly most recently served as Vice Chairman at American /International Group (AIG), in charge of Legal, Compliance, Regulatory, Human Resources, Communications, Government Relations and Public Relations. She began at AIG in 2006 as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Senior Regulatory and Compliance Officer.While at AIG, Kelly worked to strengthen the compliance, regulatory and governance framework of the company and to build a cohesive team across the corporate functions she supervised. Under her leadership, AIG’s corporate activities became better positioned to restore the embattled company’s financial health. “We have known and worked closely with Stasia for many years, in a variety of different contexts. It would be difficult to identify another lawyer in this country with more complex corporate governance and board crisis experience, or more character, grit and determination than Stasia Kelly,” said Francis B. Kelly also served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Fannie Mae from 1995-1998, and had been a partner and associate at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering, where she had extensive exposure to regulatory and compliance issues involving financial institutions and securities firms. She has served on the boards of numerous non-profit organizations, with a particular emphasis on providing legal services to disenfranchised and indigent populations. Kelly received a J.D., magna cum laude, from George Washington University National Law Center and a B.A., cum laude, from Trinity University.
Releases Report Detailing Campaign of Sexual Terror in Mugabe's Zimbabwe
New Perimeter, DLA Piper’s nonprofit affiliate, in cooperation with AIDS-Free World, today hosted a panel discussion on the use of rape as a political tool and a strategy of conflict in Sub-Saharan Africa. Sara Andrews, DLA Piper’s New Perimeter Program Manager, moderated a panel of experts who discussed the pervasive problem of sexual violence in the region. DLA Piper serves as primary pro bono counsel to AIDS-Free World in addressing politically motivated rape in Zimbabwe. A New Perimeter team of DLA Piper lawyers joined AIDS-Free World on four trips to southern Africa to document the human rights abuses, prepare a legal dossier and undertake legal research and analysis. DLA Piper helped AIDS-Free World produce the report, “Electing to Rape: Sexual Terror in Mugabe’s Zimbabwe.” Stephen Lewis, Co-Director of AIDS-Free World, detailed the results of the report which found that Zimbabwe’s ruling party committed a brutal, orchestrated campaign of rape and torture during the 2008 election to terrorize supporters of the opposition party. “DLA Piper has been working closely with AIDS-Free World over the past year to document, publicize and combat politically-motivated human rights abuses against Zimbabwean women,” said Sheldon Krantz, DLA Piper Partner and New Perimeter Director. “Our goal is to raise awareness about the atrocities committed by Mugabe’s regime against women, to hold those accountable responsible and to ensure that these human rights violations will not continue.” Today’s panel also provided insight on the urgent need for a U.S. government and international response to orchestrated campaigns of sexual violence, the significant impact on victimized women and the connection to Africa’s HIV/AIDS epidemic.
