Rudnick named managing partner of DLA Piper’s Chicago office

(Chicago) – DLA Piper announced today that William A. Rudnick has been named managing partner of the firm's Chicago office, which is DLA Piper's largest office in the United States.

In his new role, Rudnick will guide the office’s strategic growth and general management. He succeeds Louis S. Cohen, chair of the firm’s Chicago real estate department, who will continue to focus on representing clients in matters related to the development and use of professional sports venues and transactional real estate. Rudnick, a member of both DLA Piper’s Real Estate and Corporate practice groups, also chairs the firm’s Nonprofit and Philanthropy practice group.

Building upon Cohen’s achievements for the office, Rudnick will focus his efforts building on the Chicago office’s reputation for excellence which is complemented by the firm’s global reach.

“The firm’s strong footprint in Chicago will continue to evolve, further deepening the services we offer clients,” said Rudnick. “Working closely with clients who have a Chicago presence to fully harness this unique global platform to their benefit remains a chief priority for DLA Piper.”

“Bill brings a unique institutional knowledge of the firm to this office and also possesses the type of global, strategic thinking necessary to continue leading the growth of the Chicago office,” added Lee I. Miller, Joint Chief Executive Office for DLA Piper.

Prior to his role as managing partner of the Chicago office, Rudnick has previously led the firm's Strategic Planning and Real Estate Strategy Committees and has served on the firm's Executive and Policy Committees.

Rudnick counsels and represents entrepreneurial clients, advising on legal and business issues, including capital structure and deal structure (including tenancy-in-common real estate transactions) recapitalization and workout, transaction strategy, corporate governance, litigation strategy, and strategic planning.

Additionally, Rudnick is internationally recognized for his leadership roles in hunger relief. He is a co-founder and chairman of the board of the Global FoodBanking Network (GFN), an organization comprised of national and regional food bank associations around the world, whose mission is to end world hunger by supporting food banking where it exists and helping create it where it does not.

Rudnick received a B.A. from Tufts University cum laude, an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago with honors and a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.
