Press Release
DLA Piper has advised TUI Travel PLC on its pan-European outsourcing of desktop IT services to Dell. The deal will generate major cost savings for TUI Travel across the lifetime of the deal, whilst also delivering significant transformation of TUI Travel's desktop infrastructure. As part of TUI Travel's ongoing restructure of services across the group, Dell will deliver a complete desktop and laptop operating environment and service desk services to TUI Travel companies across Europe, which will improve the quality of services provided to TUI Travel employees across all of its European offices.
Kit Burden, lead partner in the DLA Piper team, said: "This deal, whilst structured in a manner familiar to many large scale outsourcing projects, brought with it some unique challenges. The agreement had to be finely balanced to accommodate the varying needs of the TUI Travel group as well as being flexible enough to deal with the seasonal nature of TUI Travel's business. It was in any event a pleasure to work with our colleagues at TUI Travel once more to bring it to a successful conclusion."
Karen Goh, General Counsel – IP, IT & E-Commerce at TUI Travel PLC said: " The innovative cost modelling and service structure we have in place will enable TUI Travel to achieve a common service desk system with local language service desks operating to ITIL principles, a group-wide database supporting hardware and software asset management and a group-wide, common Active Directory and Exchange environment. Once again we enjoyed working with DLA Piper on this important agreement".
This is the second significant pan-European deal DLA Piper's Technology and Sourcing team has recently advised TUI Travel on, after successfully completing TUI Travel's networks outsource deal with T-Systems for the implementation and operation of a unified communications service early in 2010.
DLA Piper's dedicated Technology and Sourcing team is recognised as one of the world's leading practices of its kind. It was named 'Advisor of the Year' at the 2010 European Outsourcing Association Awards.
Kit Burden was supported on the DLA Piper team by Rebekah Flaherty, Gurpreet Duhra (employment) and Imran Syed.
