DLA Piper honors Senator George Mitchell at intimate dinner and reception in Washington, DC

On July 26, DLA Piper held a reception and dinner in Washington, DC, to honor former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell for his extraordinary contributions to public service and to celebrate his return to DLA Piper as Chairman Emeritus. Dignitaries among the guests included members of the Obama administration, senators and congressmen, ambassadors, CEOs and general counsel from clients and friends of the firm as well as political commentators and media representatives.

At the reception, DLA Piper Chairman Frank Burch provided an introduction that eloquently described Senator Mitchell’s many significant contributions to the firm. Former Senator Tom Daschle, now Senior Policy Advisor at DLA Piper, gave a humorous and thoughtful introduction to Senator Mitchell, followed by remarks from Senator Mitchell. In addition, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former President Bill Clinton and President Obama sent personal letters for Senator Mitchell that were read at the reception.

More than 200 guests attended, including Congressman Rob Andrews, Senator Richard Blumenthal, Ambassador Nicholas Burns, Senator Maria Cantwell, Governor Mike Castle, Secretary William Cohen, Ambassador Michael Collins of Ireland, Senator Chris Coons, White House Chief of Staff William Daley, Ambassador François Delattre of France, Senator Elizabeth Dole, Senator Dick Durbin, Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler, Senator Phil Gramm, First Secretary from the Embassy of Norway Olav Heiam-Engdal, Ambassador Stuart Holliday, Senator Daniel Inouye, Department of State Under Secretary of State for Management Patrick Kennedy, Senator John Kerry, Senator Carl Levin, Congressman Sandy Levin, NBC News Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Andrea Mitchell, Senator Ben Nelson, Leader Nancy Pelosi, Congressman Gary Peters, Senator Fred Thompson, Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Ambassador Mauro Vieira of Brazil and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse.
