News
Press Release
The international law firm DLA Piper has opened an office in Berlin as of 15 February. DLA Piper has already been maintaining a representative office in the capital since August 2006, which has been the operational base for partners Dr Wolfgang Richter, head of the German practice group Finance and Projects, and Peter Jark, head of the German practice group Restructuring and Insolvency, as well as for Dr Nina-Luisa Siedler.
A team of twelve lawyers are currently based in Berlin working in the fields of banking and finance law as well as restructuring and insolvency law. DLA Piper intends to expand the office in the coming years. Additional focuses of activity will be the fields of politics and administration as well as regulatory affairs and government relations, which are combined within the Regulatory practice group building on the expertise of more than 450 lawyers worldwide.
Apart from the field of regulatory affairs, the firm also plans to expand in areas where the Berlin legal market has evolved rapidly, such as in real estate and media. Furthermore, DLA Piper is also open to growth in other areas of law. After all, Berlin not only has a tradition of good lawyers, as a capital city it also exerts a great force of attraction for talented young lawyers.
The opening of an office in Berlin is a wish from both the German partners and the practice as a whole. Dr Ulrich Jüngst, Managing Partner of DLA Piper in Germany, comments: “The proximity to politics and administration is important for us. With an office in the capital we will be able to advise our clients on site as part of a direct dialogue with the public decision-makers.”
Dr Wolfgang Richter adds: “Berlin has remarkable pulling power, not only for young people. The special quality of life together with the proximity to politics and associations also make Berlin attractive to many decision-makers from business and finance."
DLA Piper now has five offices in Germany. In addition to Berlin, the firm is based in Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne and Munich.
