Press Release

DLA Piper is ranked first in global M&A by deal volume during the first nine months of 2010 by Mergermarket’s League Tables for Legal Advisors and second in global M&A by deal volume by Thomson Reuters’ Mergers & Acquisitions Legal Advisory Review.

DLA Piper also topped the charts in a number of regions around the globe, ranking first by deal volume in the United Kingdom, Asia-Pacific and Greater China, while the firm also ranked second in European deals by volume and fifth in the United States, according to Mergermarket.

As reported by Thomson Reuters, DLA Piper rose to second place from third place in worldwide announced deals with a total of 194 deals, an increase of nine deals over the previous year. Meanwhile, in worldwide completed deals, DLA Piper closed 189 deals to maintain its second place ranking, representing an increase of 12 deals over the previous year.

“These rankings are a testament to our global team and the strength of the firm’s international presence,” said Juan Picon, EMEA Group Head of Corporate at DLA Piper. "In the last six months, our corporate practice has provided global counsel on a number of complex transactions as the capital markets have begun to loosen.”

Jonathan Klein, Chair of DLA Piper’s US M&A Practice, said, “Clients are increasingly looking to DLA Piper’s comprehensive global platform for counsel with transactions involving multiple jurisdictions, and as credit conditions improve, we hope this deal flow continues to accelerate.”

Notably, in the third quarter, DLA Piper also led one of the largest European deals of year, handling Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Ltd.’s $8.9 billion acquisition of Electricite de France SA, which marked the largest acquisition of a UK company by a Hong Kong-based company.
