Chapman
Partner
Chair, Alternative Asset Management Practice
|
Drew G.L. Chapman is the chair of the Alternative Asset Management practice group of DLA Piper in the US.
Mr. Chapman's practice focuses on the alternative investment, asset management and securities industries, to which he brings broad transactional and structuring experience. He counsels clients on crucial and complex policy and regulatory issues, adversarial situations, and on transactions of all types, including mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, restructurings and activist investing.
Mr. Chapman's experience in the alternative and asset management industries is exceptionally broad. He has represented managers on matters ranging from fund formation and structuring (particularly with cross-border components), to suspending redemptions, liquidity issues and liquidations. He has also represented investors in connection with their investment into funds (including co-investments), and has assisted them in protecting and recovering their investments.
Mr. Chapman also provides ongoing representation to clients by advising them on issues that arise in their day-to-day investment and trading activities and on compliance matters.
His clients include some of the world's largest and best-known hedge funds, private equity funds, broker-dealers, asset management firms and sovereign wealth funds.
In 2009, the respected research firm Legal 500 cited Mr. Chapman, noting that clients describe him as "a highly technically sound attorney" and one who "understands business and the markets." In 2007, Investment Dealers' Digest named Mr. Chapman to its 40 Under 40 list. He is a regular commentator on financial television networks, including Fox Business News. He is also a seasoned speaker and panelist on the topic of hedge funds, and his commentary has been published in leading news publications.
