Earl Adams, Jr., former Chief of Staff to Maryland's Lieutenant Governor, joins DLA Piper in Baltimore

DLA Piper announced today that Earl Adams, Jr. has joined the Litigation and Government Affairs practices as Of Counsel in the Baltimore office. Adams most recently served as Chief of Staff in the Office of Lieutenant Governor of Maryland Anthony G. Brown, where he gained extensive experience in a wide variety of legal and governmental matters.

Adams has served the people of Maryland in the Office of the Lieutenant Governor since January 2007, first in the role of Deputy Chief of Staff and then as Chief of Staff beginning in December 2008. Before entering public service, he practiced law for several years at firms in Maryland and Washington, DC. Adams will be based in DLA Piper’s Baltimore office, but will also counsel clients in Washington, DC, as well as Annapolis and throughout Maryland.

While serving in the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, Adams was an attendee of Governor Martin O’Malley's Executive Cabinet and chaired the Task Force to Study Locations in Prince George's County Best Suited for Use by State Agencies. He also advised the Lt. Governor on various initiatives, as well as judicial nominations and appointments to state commissions and boards, and served as liaison to the National Lieutenant Governors Association.

An active member of the Maryland business community, last year Adams participated in the Greater Baltimore Committee’s LEADERship Program and the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation’s Israel Mission Alumni Scholars Program. He also served as a member of the Obama-Biden Transition Team for the Department of Veteran Affairs, Legal Affairs. Adams received a J.D. from Boston College Law School, a Master in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School and a B.A., cum laude, from Morehouse College. While in law school, he served as a summer associate in the Washington, DC office of DLA Piper in 2000.
