Edward is a Partner (Foreign Legal Consultant) in DLA Piper's Intellectual Property and Technology team based in our Hong Kong office. Edward's interest and expertise lies in the field of intellectual property.Trained in the City, Edward specialises in providing litigation and transactional intellectual property advice to companies in a diverse range of industries. Edward's experience covers the full range of intellectual property, including trade marks, passing off, patents, copyright, registered and unregistered designs and breach of confidence. Edward also has experience in media-related litigation and advice.

Areas of practice

Edward's experience includes providing advice on the full range of intellectual property including the ownership, maintenance, protection and exploitation of intellectual property, clearance work and advice and dispute resolution.

Edward has particular experience in dispute resolution, both in resolving disputes pre-action and in formal litigation. Edward has been involved in bringing and defending a wide range of claims in the High Court, Patents County Court, Court of Appeal, before the UK Trade Marks Registry and in relation to claims under Nominet's DRP Policy and ICANN's Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy. Edward also has particular experience in advising public sector bodies, particularly those in the health sector, on all aspects of the ownership, maintenance, protection and exploitation of intellectual property.

Edward advises a wide range of clients including brand owners, financial institutions, public sector bodies, e-commerce technology companies and organisations in the manufacturing and construction industries.

• Advising Gap on its commercial arrangements with its online partner in China and Hong Kong
• Advising a mobile chip company in respect of infringement proceedings and related invalidity proceedings in China
• Advising Polo Ralph Lauren with respect to the legal and regulatory issues connected with establishing an online presence in Japan
• Advising a Hong Kong manufacturing company in respect of an alleged design infringement in Hong Kong
• Advising Tele Atlas (TomTom) in respect of commercial intellectual property issues in China.
