Welcome to the 2011 edition of Insurance Year in Review, DLA Piper’s annual insurance publication.
Floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, nuclear breakdowns, bushfires… in many ways, 2011 was a cruel year. And as always, the insurance industry was in the eye of the storm. For that reason, this edition’s central theme is the insurance implications of natural disasters – focusing on the official enquiries resulting from the Queensland floods and also on the issues facing insurers after the major incidents abroad.
We also look beyond natural disasters to developments across the wider industry, including in relation to professional indemnity, workers compensation, reinsurance, transport, medical indemnity and more. Of particular note is the section devoted to directors and officers insurance, and the developing implications for those individuals in the wake of key decisions handed down in the courts last year.
