Professor Erik Lutjens is of counsel and is a member of the Employment, Pensions and Benefits group of DLA Piper. Erik is the leading expert in the area of pension law in the Dutch legal practice. He has been lecturing at VU University in Amsterdam for more than 24 years, where he was appointed Professor in Pension Law in 1992. Erik has been working as a lawyer for more than 25 years. At DLA Piper, Erik advises large pension funds, the Dutch Government and financial institutions on pension issues.
Erik regularly acts as an expert in legal proceedings as an arbitrator or binding advisor. He is the initiator and a lecturer of the post-academic Pension Law course at VU University. He is also the chairman of the board of the Pension Lawyers' Association (Vereniging van Pensioenjuristen).
Publications
Erik is the editor-in-chief of the Pensions & Practice (Pensioen & Praktijk) magazine and editor of various publications on pension matters such as the Magazine for Pension Issues (Tijdschrift voor Pensioenvraagstukken), Pension Case Law (Pensioenjurisprudentie) and Current Pension Issues (Pensioenactualiteiten). He is also the author of various books including: 'Pension Act, analysis and comments' (Pensioenwet, analyse en commentaar), which addresses the new pension law that was implemented in 2007.
