Bruce Falby appointed to Boston Bar Association Council

(Boston) – DLA Piper today announced that Bruce Falby, Chair of the firm’s Boston Litigation practice, has been appointed to the Boston Bar Association (BBA) Council for a three-year term.

“We are very excited that Bruce has been appointed to this leadership role at the Boston Bar Association,” said Elliot Surkin, managing partner of DLA Piper’s Boston office. “We congratulate him on this highly prestigious honor and know he will continue to make great contributions to the Boston legal community.”

The Boston Bar Association is a volunteer non-governmental organization whose mission is to advance the highest standards of excellence for the legal profession, to facilitate access to justice, and to serve the community at large. The Association has 9,500 members drawn from private practice, corporations, government agencies, legal aid organizations, the courts, and law schools.

The BBA Council, which in essence acts as the board of directors for the BBA, consists of 28 attorneys: five officers, the immediate past-president of the BBA, the President of the Boston Bar Foundation, and 21 members at large. The responsibilities and obligations of the BBA Council are to ensure that the BBA does the best work possible in pursuit of its goals, to act as a responsible steward of the mission and purpose of the BBA, and to work in good faith with staff and other council members as partners in achieving their goals.

About Bruce Falby

Falby concentrates his practice on complex business disputes in state and federal courts and in arbitration. He has represented clients in a wide range of lawsuits involving breach of contract, business torts, securities fraud, partnership and joint venture disputes, and noncompetition and nondisclosure covenants. Falby also has significant experience in intellectual property litigation, and has represented private and publicly traded companies in lawsuits involving trademark infringement, computer software and technology development and licensing disputes, patent infringement, Internet issues, and misappropriation of trade secrets.

He is completing a term as co-chair of the BBA Litigation Section, and previously served as co-chair of the BBA Intellectual Property Litigation and Computer Law committees. Every year since 2002, Falby has been a panelist at the BBA’s IP Year in Review program.

Falby received a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, magna cum laude, and a B.M. from the Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music, magna cum laude.

Falby’s term on the BBA Council begins September 1, 2008.
