John Allcock focuses on patent litigation. He has extensive experience handling patent cases through trial, and appeal to the Federal Circuit.

Mr. Allcock brings an extensive jury trial background to his patent litigation specialty (lead counsel in excess of 60 cases tried to juries to verdict), as well as arbitration experience (lead counsel in excess of 100 arbitrations), and extensive experience in court trials, International Trade Commission (ITC) hearings, various forms of alternative dispute resolution, and management of complex litigation.

Regarding his intellectual property experience, Mr. Allcock has tried over 30 patent cases. Some of the notable cases include a $26 million dollar jury verdict in a patent and Semiconductor Chip Act case (Brooktree v. AMD); trial of a semiconductor patent case in the International Trade Commission (Fujitsu v. Samsung); defense of a multiple patent case (Finnigan v. Hewlett-Packard Company ); a finding of infringement and validity and an exclusion order, in a six-patent case (Hewlett-Packard Company v. Gateway ); and multimillion-dollar verdict in a software patent case (Adobe v. Macromedia ).

The respected English research firm Chambers and Partners cites Mr. Allcock in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, calling him an “excellent litigator” with “wide-ranging trial expertise.” In 2008, the California Daily Journal named him among California’s Top Ten Patent Lawyers, in its first-ever listing of the state’s top intellectual property lawyers. In 2006, 2007 and 2008, the San Diego Daily Transcript named him among San Diego County’s Top Attorneys, “the peer-selected best and brightest in San Diego’s legal arena.” In 2006, when the National Law Journal selected DLA Piper to its “Defense Hot List,” it identified Mr. Allcock’s work in the Hewlett-Packard/Gateway patent litigation as one of the firm’s noteworthy victories. He has also been named a Super Lawyer, as the result of a joint research project by Law & Politics magazine and the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Mr. Allcock is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.
