Gina M. Zawitoski has a diverse environmental law practice which focuses principally on environmental matters relating to corporate and real property transactions, including Brownfields redevelopment, and a broad range of regulatory compliance matters including water discharges, hazardous waste and natural resource matters. She is a past chair of the Maryland State Bar Association Section of Environmental Law and that Section's award-winning Public Outreach Committee.
Ms. Zawitoski acts as environmental counsel to major national and local developers and to manufacturers and mining and aggregates companies. She has extensive experience in the evaluation and management of environmental site assessments and site remediation in loan origination, corporate transactions, work outs, foreclosures, and property sales and acquisitions.
Ms. Zawitoski chaired the ASTM effort to draft national guidelines for Phase II environmental site assessments for commercial real estate transactions and regularly oversees the environmental due diligence undertaken to support business acquisitions and divestitures. She also counsels fiduciaries and commercial property owners and managers on environmental issues relating to asset management.
In 2008, the Maryland Daily Record named Ms. Zawitoski among Maryland's Top 100 Women. She was honored for her leadership and for giving back to the legal profession and the community through mentorship and personal community involvement.
She is a frequent lecturer on environmental matters and has authored and co-authored numerous articles on environmental liability for lenders and others. She is a co-author of the Maryland Guide to Environmental Law and the Maryland Environmental Law Handbook.
Ms. Zawitoski is the Pro Bono Coordinator for the Baltimore office.
