Gina M. Zawitoski has a diverse environmental law practice which focuses principally on environmental matters relating to corporate and real property transactions and a broad range of regulatory compliance and permitting matters, including wastewater management, hazardous waste and natural resource matters. She is a past chair of the Maryland State Bar Association Section of Environmental Law and that Section's award-winning Public Outreach Committee.
Ms. Zawitoski acts as environmental counsel to manufacturers, mining and aggregates companies, private equity firms, real estate investment managers, developers and others. She regularly oversees the environmental due diligence undertaken to support business acquisitions and divestitures. She also counsels clients on environmental issues relating to their business operations and asset management.
Ms. Zawitoski chaired the ASTM effort to draft national guidelines for Phase II environmental site assessments for commercial real estate transactions. She has extensive experience contracting for, managing and evaluating environmental site assessments in a broad range of business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, real property sales and acquisitions, loan origination, work outs and foreclosures.
In 2008, the Maryland Daily Record named Ms. Zawitoski among Maryland's Top 100 Women. She was honored for her leadership and for giving back to the legal profession and the community through mentoring and personal involvement in the community. In 2011, Arrive magazine, the official publication of Amtrak and Acela Express, named her to its list of Top Women Lawyers in the Northeast.
She is a frequent lecturer on environmental matters and has authored and co-authored numerous articles on environmental liability and regulations. She is a co-author of the Maryland Guide to Environmental Law and the Maryland Environmental Law Handbook.
Ms. Zawitoski is the Pro Bono Coordinator for DLA Piper's Baltimore office.
