Jeffrey R. Keitelman has been the lead lawyer on many of the largest and most high profile transactions in the Washington, DC area and across the country. Mr. Keitelman heads DLA Piper's Government Real Estate, Corporate Real Estate and Green Real Estate teams. He also is a member of the firm's Executive and Policy Committees.
Mr. Keitelman represents local, national and international owners, users, lenders, managers and brokers in acquisition, disposition, leasing, development, financing, property management and related matters involving urban office buildings, suburban office and industrial parks, shopping centers, headquarters facilities and mixed use developments. He represents Fortune 500 companies, pension fund investors, REITs, life insurance companies, financial institutions, asset advisors, law firms, developers, governmental entities, nonprofit and educational institutions, trade associations and numerous other clients. He also has experience with counseling clients in connection with real estate-related litigation and bankruptcy matters, as well as with public/private partnership and government-related transactions.
Mr. Keitelman has received consistent national recognition and numerous professional accolades. The respected English research publisher Chambers & Partners has honored him for years in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, calling him "knowledgeable and experienced" and "incredibly client-focused and protective of his clients' interests." Chambers has also noted that his "wide-ranging practice spans the full range of commercial real estate, and he is particularly highlighted for his superb representation of REITs, Fortune 500 companies, law firms, developers and government entities."
Mr. Keitelman has also been "highly recommended" in the PLC Which Lawyer? Yearbook for years. The Legal 500 remarks that clients say he "possesses 'excellent business sense' and 'has a keen sense for developing and negotiating strategies.'" Based on peer reviews, he has been listed in the 2011 and prior editions of The Best Lawyers in America in the real estate category. He also is listed in the 2012 and prior year versions of the Washington DC editions of Super Lawyers; has been named in the Guide to the World's Leading Real Estate Lawyers; selected as a leading lawyer in PLC's Global Counsel Handbook of Corporate Real Estate; listed in the Real Estate Expert Guide as one of the world's leading real estate lawyers; listed in An International Who's Who of Real Estate Lawyers; listed in the Marquis Who's Who in America; he is recognized in Euromoney's Guide to the World's Leading Real Estate Lawyers as a pre-eminent figure in global real estate transactions; and listed in numerous other Who's Who publications. In 2007, Washington SmartCEO named him among its Legal Elite as the Leading Real Estate Lawyer in the area. And in 2006, The Washington Business Journal named him the "Top Washington Lawyer" for Real Estate.
Mr. Keitelman also has made community service and pro bono causes a significant part of his professional career. For example, he is the founder of Greater DC Cares, the leading volunteerism and corporate philanthropy organization in the greater Washington, DC area. Mr. Keitelman also is a founding member of City Cares of America and of Youth Leadership of Metropolitan Washington; he is past chair of the board of trustees of the Lowell School; and he recently served on the board of the Greater Washington Urban League.
In connection with his community service activities, Mr. Keitelman has received numerous accolades. Most recently, he was honored as a "Lifelong Champion" of philanthropy, service and volunteerism by Greater DC Cares. He has also received many other awards, such as W-USA TV's One & Only 9 Award; Leadership Washington's Distinguished Leadership Award; the Washington's Business Journal's 40 Under 40 Award; and Brown University's John Hope Alumni Award for Community Service. He also has served on the editorial board of CoreNet Global's Corporate Real Estate Leader magazine and on the editorial advisory board of Corporate Perspectives of the Real Estate Forum magazine.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in connection with all aspects of their ongoing redevelopment of the World Trade Center site in lower Manhattan

A worldwide real estate investment company on the sale of a 17-building, multi-state office portfolio and on the acquisition of a different $750 million Washington, DC office portfolio

A national private REIT on significant acquisitions and leasing matters in major metropolitan markets across the country

Numerous owners of Class A office buildings on significant leases with major national firms and retailers, including several major lease deals each year
-
Major US corporations on headquarters relocations, build-to-suit development transactions, and merger and acquisition transactions, as well as on its ongoing corporate real estate facilities matters at various national and international satellite locations

The District of Columbia Government in connection with the redevelopment of the Southwest Waterfront area of Washington, DC

Numerous buyers and sellers of government-occupied property, and numerous owners with respect to their government leasing activities, including:
- A 592,000 square foot lease with the GSA for the Transpoint Building in Washington, DC, which has served as the headquarters for the US Coast Guard since the Nixon Administration
- A 521,000 square foot lease with the GSA for Two Constitution Square in Washington, DC, to house over 2,000 Department of Justice employees
- An Arlington, Virginia office complex in a 540,000 square foot lease with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for its headquarters facility
- An Arlington, Virginia, office building in a 191,881 square foot lease with the Department of Fish and Wildlife
- A Washington, DC, office building in a 220,000 square foot lease with the National Park Service
- A suburban Maryland industrial building in a 145,000 square foot lease with the Department of Defense
- A 250,000 square foot lease in a Washington, DC office building with the Commodity and Futures Trading Commission to serve as the CFTC's headquarters
- A 380,000 square foot lease in a Washington, DC, office building with the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation to serve as the PBGC's headquarters
- Numerous other government deals in the Washington, DC, Chicago, Los Angeles, Kansas City and San Francisco areas, and across the country
