Jim Montgomery is the managing partner of the Austin office. He works with high growth technology companies (Internet, software, microchip and life science) in their formation, funding, growth and exit. The types of matters he has handled in this context include structuring businesses and negotiating and closing venture or private equity financings; structuring option plans and incentive bonus plans; negotiating licenses, distributor or similar agreements; and assisting companies in their exit through asset sales, stock sales, mergers or public offerings. Mr. Montgomery has also represented a number of technology companies in private placement offerings.

Mr. Montgomery has extensive experience in venture fund structures and formations. He has structured and formed venture and private equity funds (including Murphree Ventures Partners Fund V, Southeast Interactive Technology Fund IV, and Virgo Capital Fund I, L.P.) and represented venture funds (including Austin Ventures, Centerpoint Ventures, Trellis Ventures, Triton Ventures, Murphree Ventures and Southeast Interactive, among others) in fund investments, completing well over 200 venture financings as either fund counsel or company counsel.

Legal 500 has recognized Mr. Montgomery for his work with venture capital and emerging companies, noting that clients praise him for his "solid legal work and advice" and "great experience."
