Partner
|
Joris is a partner in the Intellectual Property and Technology group in the Amsterdam office and heads the technology team.
He specialises in drafting and negotiating complex (international) licensing and commercial contracts, with an emphasis on the TMT sector, outsourcing transactions and complex multi-jurisdictional negotiations. Joris has negotiated a fair number of complex multi-jurisdictional transactions and has extensive experience in operating in various jurisdictions, including China, India, South Korea, the African continent and the US.
In 2004, Joris worked in the Hong Kong and the Shanghai offices of DLA Piper.
Joris frequently publishes articles and gives presentations on commercial contracts, technology licensing and outsourcing related subject matters. He is a member of the board and treasurer of the Dutch Media and Communications Law Association, and a member of the LES Benelux, ItechLaw and the VIRA (Dutch technology lawyers association). During his studies, he was an editor in chief ad interim of Mediaforum Law Review and a student-assistant at the Institute of Information Law (IViR) of the University of Amsterdam.
Legal 500 2010 states that Joris Willems possesses ‘excellent knowledge of conditional access systems.’ A clients quotes Joris as "[being] extremely capable in understanding and harmonising legal and technology constraints and objectives. He has the ability to capture the outcome in clear, well-structured agreements that are not overly complex."
