Joseph A. Turzi focuses his practice on providing strategic counseling to employers facing complex labor relations issues. He represents companies facing large-scale international and national union corporate campaigns. He also assists clients with the difficult labor relations issues that arise when companies undergo rapid change or technological challenges.
Mr. Turzi provides counsel on the unique issues that arise when federal and state labor and employment laws conflict with tribal sovereignty. On behalf of tribal casinos, he has addressed a number of union organizing campaigns. During the tribal-state compacting process, he provides employment law and labor relations counsel and assists in drafting tribal labor and employment ordinances.
Mr. Turzi has represented employers in unfair labor practice cases and collective bargaining negotiations under the National Labor Relations Act and the Railway Labor Act. He has represented employers in litigation under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and state laws governing retaliatory and wrongful discharge claims. Mr. Turzi handled the largest case the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has brought against a construction industry employer.
Mr. Turzi also has held senior executive positions in industry. At RailTex, he was vice president of human resources during a significant company reorganization. He was involved in the sale of RailTex to RailAmerica and the post-acquisition consolidation of the two companies. Mr. Turzi also was senior vice president of administration and human resources at Production Resource Group (PRG), the world’s leading entertainment technology company, where he served on the management team brought in to consolidate and rationalize operations after a four-year period of explosive growth through acquisition.
