Joshua Briones is a partner in DLA Piper's Litigation group. Mr. Briones is keenly focused on his clients' business objectives and committed to minimizing the disruptive effects of litigation upon their businesses. His clients rely on his skills as an effective crisis manager and counselor.

Mr. Briones has litigated and tried a wide range of complex business disputes for local, national and international clients, in the areas of consumer class actions, securities, contracts, business torts, copyright and trademarks, deceptive trade practices and fiduciary disputes. Mr. Briones also has international litigation experience. He represents foreign companies doing business in the United States in commercial and regulatory disputes. He has prepared several cases for trial in state and federal courts for cases originating outside the United States, including conducting discovery under international treaties, addressing international conflict of laws issues, and obtaining dismissals under the forum non conveniens doctrine.

While Mr. Briones currently works in Los Angeles, he spent the first five years of his career in DLA Piper's San Diego office.

Social Media, E-Discovery and Privacy

Mr. Briones is a member of DLA Piper's Electronic Discovery Readiness and Response group. He is also co-chair of DLA Piper's Social Media practice. He regularly counsels clients on issues relating to records retention, litigation holds, the preservation and use of electronic information, social media and Internet legal issues. Mr. Briones also advises companies on the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and associated FTC regulations. He also devises successful defense strategies in TCPA class actions.

DLA Piper Committee Service

Mr. Briones is on the Hiring Committee for the Los Angeles office. He is also a member of DLA Piper's Los Angeles Pro Bono Committee and the Pro Bono Coordinator for the Century City office. Mr. Briones is head of the Los Angeles Diversity Committee and also serves as DLA Piper's Hispanic/Latino Affinity Group leader.

Honors and Awards

In 2011 and 2012, Mr. Briones was named a Southern California Rising Star. No more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in the state of California are named to the list.

In 2010, an article he co-authored, "The SEC's Two Pronged Attack on Naked Short Selling," which originally appeared in the November 18, 2009 issue of Bloomberg Law, was nominated by the editors of Securities Law Report as one of the best contributed articles of the fourth quarter.
