Our experience in Latin America includes assisting clients both from inside and outside the region with the full range of commercial services that DLA Piper provides worldwide, including raising private equity and debt financing, significant M&A activity, capital markets transactions, franchise and distribution matters, tax structuring, imports and market access issues, cross-border disputes, and closing numerous complex energy, infrastructure and other project-related financings and privatization transactions.

Several DLA Piper lawyers were born or raised in the region and are fluent in Spanish or Portuguese. Many have also practiced law in both the United States and in Latin America. Strategic relationships with local counsel and political and business leaders in Latin America enhance our understanding of the region and enable us to provide our clients practical, meaningful legal advice.

Historically DLA Piper has worked through “Best Friends” in some locations and referral firms in others. Although currently those relationships remain in place (and some will continue over the longer term), we are assessing the individual Latin American markets to determine the most effective way for DLA to establish a local presence, both to provide our clients with the highest quality and most comprehensive legal services available on a global basis, and also to further the firm’s strategic desire to be present in the important business markets throughout the world.
