We are pleased to announce that DLA Piper ranked #1 among the world’s leading global law firms in the Law360 Global 20.

In ranking the world’s leading law firms, Law360 considered each firm’s ability to respond to clients’ multi-jurisdictional needs, ranking them in categories such as distribution of lawyers and offices around the world, breadth of the international work and the size, volume and complexity of cross-border work.

DLA Piper distinguished itself in all of these criteria, especially in our ability to serve the most important legal needs of clients wherever they do business, whether across multiple jurisdictions or in a single market.

We currently have lawyers in each of the world’s leading business and economic centers, and our investment over the past year has included entry into Australia and emerging markets such as Turkey, Mongolia and Venezuela as well as Brazil through our cooperation agreement with leading Latin American firm Campos Mello Advogados.

We have been privileged to serve our clients on a wide range of sophisticated cross-border matters, ranging from mergers and acquisitions to intellectual property and international arbitration. A few examples include representing:
  • A consortium including Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Limited (Asia) in its £5.8 billion acquisition of EDF’s (Electricite de France) power distribution assets in the East and South of England.
  • Groupon, Inc. in the rejected bid by Google (US$6 billion), US$950 million round of global equity financing and numerous acquisitions across the US, Asia, Africa, Europe and South America.
  • Trident Microsystems, Inc. in its acquisition of NXP Semiconductor’s television systems and set-top box business lines in more than a dozen countries.
  • Towers Watson & Co. in its acquisition of a complementary company’s worldwide operations involving lawyer teams in the UK, US, France, Japan, Spain, Brazil, South Africa, the Netherlands, Germany and India.
  • Motorola in a patent offensive against Canada-based Research in Motion (RIM) that involves a 27-patent case in the Northern District of Texas and three separate lawsuits in the UK involving five UK patents.
  • Turkish Ministry of Transportation in an ICC arbitration related to the termination of a €850 million contract concerning the Marmaray Project, one of the largest transportation infrastructure projects in the world.
  • A deal spanning Israel, the US and Australia involving a joint venture of Elbit Plaza USA, L.P., a subsidiary of Israel-based Elbit Imaging Ltd. and Plaza Centers N.V, and Eastgate Property LLC in the acquisition of interests in Macquarie DDR Trust, an Australian public company that owns two US REITs with a combined portfolio of 78 retail properties across the US.
  • A global financial services company in the sale of a portfolio of US$4 billion of whole loans, B-notes and CMBS to a joint venture formed between the client and funds managed by an international investment firm as well as a US$2 billion purchase money financing facility.

As always, we are grateful to our clients for their continued trust and to our lawyers for their unwavering commitment to serving the needs of clients throughout the world.
