Mark is a partner in the Technology, Media & Commercial group. His work includes all aspects of IT law, majoring in particular on public procurement, IT in the financial services sector and e-commerce issues in general. Mark has specialised in the development of standard shrink-wrap licences for both the software publishing and CD-ROM industries (SPA and CD-ROM SPAG) and has drafted Internet usage guidance for both central and local government. He has advised on a number of PPP and PFI deals for local and central government. He has also advised on a variety of electronic trading and data feed arrangements for banks and exchanges around the world.
Mark retains a close link with developments in the IT and e-commerce world allowing him to provide proactive and tailored advice to clients. He was the author of the clauses that became the BSI Standard for Year 2000 Date Compliance and is a columnist for a number of IT magazines. Recent articles include: “How to terminate IT contracts”, “Contracting for Disaster Recovery”, “Legal issues for businesses on the Net” and “Disharmony on patentability”. Mark is the author of the UK edition of “Information Technology Transactions – Business, Management and Legal Strategies” by Canadian lawyer Duncan Card, published by Sweet & Maxwell in 2004.
Mark was ranked as an “expert” in e-commerce by the Legal Business Report in 2002, 2003 and 2004, and as a “rising star” in PFI in the Legal 500, 2004. He is often quoted in industry journals and has appeared as an industry pundit on Sky News, CNBC and Radio 4.
Mark is a member of SOCITM, the Licensed Executives Society and the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists.
