Marty Lorenzo is a partner in the Corporate and Securities group of DLA Piper LLP, where he represents public and private companies, assisting them in achieving their business and legal objectives and often acting as outside general counsel. He is a trusted advisor to C-suite executives and boards of directors, who rely on his mix of leadership skills, business acumen and legal experience to help them formulate their business strategies and achieve their goals.
Mr. Lorenzo's practice encompasses US and international strategic transactions including mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions, private placements and global corporate structuring and integration. He regularly advises clients on day-to-day US and international operational matters, including corporate governance, compliance with federal securities laws, and post-merger integration matters. As international legal counsel for his clients, he handles multijurisdictional matters that involve multiple disciplines including corporate structure and formation, corporate governance, employment, intellectual property, tax considerations and others. Mr. Lorenzo routinely handles international mergers and acquisitions, post-merger integration and consolidation matters, reorganization of international assets, global corporate structuring and integration projects, establishment of foreign presence to facilitate expansion of international operations and other cross-border business law issues. He has counseled companies in many industries, among them telecommunications, hardware, biotechnology, medical device, software and defense.
Mr. Lorenzo is a regular contributor to DLA Piper's publications on mergers and acquisitions. He is the author of "Race-Conscious-Diversity Admissions Programs: Furthering a Compelling Interest," published in the Michigan Journal of Race & Law.
Mr. Lorenzo is extensively involved in civic and pro bono work. He chairs DLA Piper's Asian Pacific Islander South Asian Affinity Group and is a member of its National Diversity and Inclusion Committee. He is the Co-Chair of the San Diego Signature Pro Bono Project that focuses on the needs of veterans and military families.
The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), which advocates for the legal needs and interests of the Asian Pacific American community and represents the interests of more than 40,000 lawyers, has selected Mr. Lorenzo as this year's Trailblazer from the San Diego/Orange County region. This award recognizes the outstanding achievements, commitment and leadership of NAPABA lawyers who have paved the way for the advancement of other Asian Pacific American lawyers. In 2007, NAPABA named Mr. Lorenzo among its Best Lawyers Under 40. Mr. Lorenzo currently serves as co-chair of NAPABA's Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, a committee he co-founded. Previously, he served as NAPABA's Vice President of Finance and Development and NAPABA’s Regional Governor for Orange County and San Diego County.
Mr. Lorenzo is General Counsel for the Asian Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund and Chairman of the Board of directors of the Southwest Center for Asian Pacific American Law. He is a member of the Alumni Board of the University of San Diego School of Law and the Chair of their Diversity Committee. He previously served as a director of the Asian Business Association, President and Treasurer of the Filipino American Lawyers of San Diego and Secretary of the Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego.
His pro bono work and his contributions to the community have earned him significant honors. In 2010, Mr. Lorenzo received the San Diego County Bar Association's Service to Diversity Award. The Filipino American Lawyers of San Diego and the Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego have honored him with the Distinguished Service Award.
In 2011, The Daily Transcript named him to its list of San Diego County Top Attorneys in recognition of his corporate transactional practice.
For more than 22 years, Mr. Lorenzo has proudly served in the Marine Corps Reserves.
