Mitka Baker’s practice covers a broad spectrum of commercial, product liability, and white collar litigation. Ms. Baker has conducted negotiations, settlement discussions, and hearings during her representation of car manufacturers and dealers in warranty and consumer protection act cases. She is also actively involved in tobacco litigation and represents a “Big Three” tobacco company in numerous individual smoker cases pending in state court.

Ms. Baker represents clients in a number of white collar and grand jury matters. She has prepared numerous motions challenging the validity of grand jury subpoenas and search warrants, and has argued a motion before the Fourth Circuit in connection with a grand jury matter.

Ms. Baker is actively involved in pro bono service, working on behalf of the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless and the Polaris Project, which aids victims of human trafficking. She is also involved with an important new project launched by New Perimeter, DLA Piper’s nonprofit affiliate dedicated to pro bono work of global significance. As part of this project, in June Ms. Baker taught a two-week class on corporate crime at the Addis Ababa Law School in Ethiopia.

In 2004-2005, Ms. Baker clerked for Chief Judge James R. Spencer in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. During that time, she assisted with both the civil and criminal docket, including criminal habeus corpus petitions.

Ms. Baker was named to the 2008 class of Legal Bisnow's 30 Under 30, a listing of exceptional young legal talent in the Washington, DC region. The article naming her noted that she already has argued an appeal before the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
