DLA Piper receives 2007 “Organization of the Year” Award from United Way
Persbericht
(Baltimore) – DLA Piper announced today that it received the 2007 “Organization of the Year” Award from United Way in Maryland. This award is presented annually to an organization that demonstrates extraordinary commitment to United Way and the community in Central Maryland, and has made substantial contributions to sustain and grow the organization.
Over the past year, DLA Piper contributed approximately one-third of all law firm dollars raised by United Way in Maryland. According to the organization, “Through its simple approach that everything matters and its vision for actively participating in the wider community, as individuals and as a firm, DLA Piper has distanced itself from most law firms in the central Maryland community.”
Since DLA Piper began its first United Way workplace campaign in 2001, the firm has raised over $1.6M for the central Maryland community.
“As a firm, we believe in giving back,” said Paul Tiburzi, Baltimore Managing Partner at DLA Piper. “The United Way provides fantastic opportunities to get involved in the Baltimore community and help those less fortunate get an education and find better jobs. We are very proud of all of DLA Piper’s lawyers and staff who deserve this award for their tremendous efforts.”
“We are deeply committed to Baltimore, where DLA Piper was founded as Piper & Marbury over 100 years ago. We’ve grown into a global firm, but we’ve never forgotten our roots. Our commitment to Baltimore is stronger than ever,” said Bob Mathias, Joint Global Leader and US Chair of DLA Piper’s Litigation Practice. “Whether it be personally or as a firm, we encourage everyone to be active in the communities where we do business. DLA Piper has fostered a culture where we all feel a responsibility to give generously and volunteer often.”
The “Organization of the Year” award was presented at the annual United Way Toqueville Society event on Wednesday, September 17, 2008.
