John Machen practices in the areas of commercial real estate financing and real estate development, including property acquisition, disposition, and leasing.
Mr. Machen has represented lenders and developers in a variety of commercial enterprises. This includes shopping centers, office buildings, condominiums, town houses, and apartments, with respect to acquisition, construction and permanent financing, syndication, leasing, sale, foreclosures, and negotiated workouts. He also has a particular interest in the automation of the practice of law and serves as on the firm's Technology Committee. Mr. Machen provides advice within and outside the firm on strategies for document assembly, electronic communications, and other computer activities related to the practice of law.
The respected English publisher Chambers & Partners cites Mr. Machen in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, saying of him: "Practical and straightforward, his commercial real estate financing work is considered highly effective by market sources." In 2008, he was named a Maryland Super Lawyer.
