Professional Support Assistants (PSA)

One of our core priorities is to have a strong, up-to-date technical legal environment. In order to provide knowledge management support to our lawyers, we have employed PSAs in many of our practice groups.

A position as a PSA in DLA Piper includes, amongst other things:
  • Preparing standard legal documents
  • Working with knowledge material
  • Producing legal updates within a specific area of law
  • Developing systems for managing knowledge materials

A PSA works closely with the practice group leader and the greater Knowledge Management team. This position will provide you with a unique opportunity to acquire further legal knowledge during your period of study.

The PSA position is a 20% position, amounting to eight hours per week. This is usually split over two days, which means that you would be working a four-hour shift, two days a week.

We know that your studies come first, so we are very flexible regarding lectures and exam preparation.

We are looking for applicants who have great academic results, are enthusiastic about their work and demonstrate an aptitude for commercial business. They will strive to deliver more than expected and will seek to develop both their personal and professional skill sets. Furthermore, it is advantageous if you have begun the third year of your legal studies.

Student vacancies will be posted here.

Trainee

As a trainee at DLA Piper, you will be given the opportunity to immerse yourself in many different legal challenges within various legal fields - and to finally put into practice the theory you acquired during your studies.

Those who have undertaken a traineeship with us find the learning curve steep and the work experience very comprehensive. Above all, they say that that the experience is incredibly useful and educational.

You will, of course, be closely supervised by a dedicated member of staff, normally a lawyer who has been with us for some time. Your sponsor will ensure that you settle in quickly, both on a social and professional level.

When it comes to events that we hold whilst you are with us - be they educational or social - you are welcome to join us!

We have two trainees working with us at all times, aside from the holiday month of July. A trainee period usually lasts six weeks, after which we prepare an evaluation report that will be reviewed by you and the lawyer responsible for your trainee program.

We employ many of our former trainees as junior legal assistants when they leave university.

We accept applications for trainee positions on a continual basis and are happy to offer positions well ahead of the traineeship start date. If you are interested in becoming a trainee with us, we recommend that you apply after you have finished your second study unit as you will benefit most from the training period once you've completed that unit.

Reception/evening secretaries

During the evenings, some of our support functions, such as reception and incidental secretarial work, are performed by students. These ad hoc part-time positions depend on our varying needs, but may easily be combined with your studies.

These popular positions could give you a great opportunity to get to know us.

We advertise here for these positions when the need arises.

Writing place and scholarship

Every semester, in support of your dissertation (masteroppgaven), we offer a writing place and scholarship to a student who wishes to write their paper on a business law topic.

This offer includes providing you with a permanent place to write your work at our offices, use of a PC (and other equipment) and a scholarship of NOK 30,000.

In addition, you will receive legal support and guidance from one of our lawyers and you will have access to our support functions, such as our library, database of knowledge materials and other legal databases.

You will also be invited to professional and social gatherings and you will of course have free access to our lunch facilities.
