Partner
|
Philip Chong is a partner in the Litigation and Arbitration group and is based in the London office. Philip specialises in the resolution of complex commercial disputes. He has a very broad range of contentious experience having acted for clients across a wide spectrum of businesses and having managed proceedings in numerous other jurisdictions. He has experience in international arbitrations (ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, LMAA and ad hoc), mediations and expert determinations.
Philip's expertise covers a wide range of industries including transport, infrastructure, logistics, energy, media, technology, telecommunications and sports. He is experienced in managing large-scale disputes across multiple jurisdictions and has dealt with several disputes involving competition law issues.
Philip is the co-author of "Transnational Litigation: A Practitioner's Guide" (England & Wales), which provides a country-by-country analysis of cross-border disputes.
Key experience:
- Advising a large multinational company in relation to potential exposure resulting from restructuring and closure of certain parts of its business.
- Acting for a sports governing body in connection with a High Court challenge on competition law grounds to its manner of allocating tickets and licensing system for corporate hospitality providers.
- Acting for a franchisor in a dispute with its nationwide network of franchisees relating to the fees payable under its franchising arrangements.
- Advising a multinational oil and gas company in relation to disputes arising out of the construction of an offshore combined oil and gas platform in the Persian Gulf.
- Advising a Middle Eastern investor in respect of a claim under a bilateral investment treaty in connection with an investment exceeding US$200m.
- Acting for a US company in a High Court action for claims involving fraud by employees of its UK subsidiary. This also involved investigating the compliance by the UK subsidiary with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
- Acting for a Middle Eastern mining resources company in a dispute resulting from the termination of a long-term mineral supply agreement and concerning a joint venture in Pakistan.
- Advising a Japanese telecommunications company in a dispute with an American company in relation to issues concerning the performance of a satellite.
- Acting for a large petrochemicals company in several disputes resulting from the termination of contracts on the basis of force majeure events.
