Global Government Relations (GGR) is the strategic communications and government relations group of DLA Piper. With a presence in DLA Piper's offices across the UK and in Washington DC, Brussels and Beijing, GGR offers specialist advice and support to organisations across the world.

As part of DLA Piper, GGR cooperates closely with legal colleagues to offer communications and public policy solutions which draw on the technical expertise of our legal colleagues.

Our team is made up of outstanding individuals with backgrounds in the various legislative and executive bodies of government in the UK, US and EU, as well as from the legal, media, business, academic and political worlds.

In the UK, our national coverage offers clients a comprehensive on-the-ground presence, with established offices in London, Edinburgh and Manchester. This reach, combined with a demonstrable excellence in meeting client needs, saw us shortlisted for UK Consultancy of the Year at the Public Affairs News Awards 2006.
The services provided by GGR's EU offer are based on a thorough knowledge of EU political processes at all levels. Our multinational and multilingual team in Brussels includes diplomats, journalists, lawyers, civil servants, political academics and colleagues with parliamentary experience. Our Brussels office also acts as the coordinating hub of DLA Piper’s pan-European public affairs network.
In the US, our government relations practice has been recognised by The National Law Journal as "one of the most high-powered lobbying shops" in Washington. Our global reach allows the government affairs group to advise and represent US-based multinationals as well as foreign clients in a broad range of international trade, policy and regulatory matters. As part of one of the world’s leading legal services organisations, the group keeps clients apprised of developments and emerging trends that can impact a client’s business both here and abroad. Working with our government affairs and media relations practices, the group can monitor policy and regulatory development and intervene or advocate for clients in major commercial centres around the world.
Members of the Government Affairs team have held senior elected, appointed, and staff positions in one or more of the three branches of the U.S. government and in numerous state governments The team includes former US congressional leaders, Senate Majority Leader George J. Mitchell, House Majority Leader Richard K. Armey, and House Majority and Minority Leader Dick Gephardt. Leading the Government Affairs group is former Michigan Governor and US Ambassador to Canada Jim Blanchard.
In Beijing, GGR provides strategic business advice in the key growth market for the global economy. We are able to call on the team's specialist government relations knowledge, including on sub-legal matters such as national licensing, procurement and tender activity.
