Richard Levine combines his 36 years of experience in real estate, tax and partnership matters in representing real estate entrepreneurs, investors, developers and homebuilders in the Baltimore-Washington area and elsewhere in the United States. Mr. Levine is particularly well known for his creativity in structuring complex transactions, with specific emphasis on sophisticated tax planning. He is one of the few lawyers in the United States to be listed in Best Lawyers in America in both the real estate and tax categories. Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business has named Mr. Levine one of America's leading lawyers in the real estate area, noting that he "works with so many top developers and understands the business so well that he can break it down and make it simple for the client to understand" and "is best known for his expertise in real estate transaction involving complex tax planning. Sources say he is 'just excellent and his reputation carries weight.'" Chambers has also commented that clients say Mr. Levine is "a top-grade attorney" who "is known for his sophisticated real estate practice and his creativity in complicated transactions, with a particular strength in tax-sensitive issues."
Representative clients include Corporate Office Properties Trust (OFC), Toll Brothers, Inc. (TOL), and Stevenson University, as well as many of the most successful private real estate developers in the Baltimore metropolitan area, including Chesapeake Realty Partners, Continental Realty Corp., James F. Knott Realty Group, MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services, Mullan Enterprises, Inc., and St. John Properties, Inc. Other clients include the private equity firm Caves Valley Partners, LLC.
Mr. Levine is a member of the Board of Directors of Brown Advisory Trust Company of Delaware, LLC.
Mr. Levine is a fellow of the prestigious American College of Tax Counsel and co-chairs the popular ALI-ABA program "Creative Tax Planning for Real Estate Transactions." In 2008, he was named a Maryland Super Lawyer.
He is active in the Baltimore community. In 2011, he was appointed to the President's Advisory Council of Notre Dame of Maryland University. He serves on the boards of McDonogh School and the Rollins-Luetkemeyer Foundation.
