DLA Piper's Richard Levine named to Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Board

Press Release

DLA Piper announced today that the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) has named Richard Levine, partner in DLA Piper’s Baltimore office, to their board of directors.

Founded in 1916, the BSO is internationally recognized as one of the world's most important orchestras. The orchestra is widely acclaimed for its enduring pursuit of artistic excellence and has maintained deep bonds throughout Maryland with innovative education and community outreach initiatives. As a member of the board, Levine will help further the BSO initiatives that have led to its prestigious reputation for musical excellence and high artistic achievement throughout the world.

“The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is a staple of the Maryland arts community, and its performances and innovative educational programs serve as a vital cultural resource for all residents,” said Levine. “DLA Piper has long been committed to supporting the BSO through service on its board and I am excited to continue this tradition through my work with the many talented and dedicated board members. I also look forward to the BSO concert tour in Europe next year in which the orchestra will visit several cities where DLA Piper has offices.”

Among the firm’s attorneys most dedicated to serving the BSO was Jeffrey Liss, who helped grow DLA Piper into an international law firm and passed away after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer in March 2007. Liss was active in both professional and civic life and served the BSO as secretary, member of the executive committee and board of directors, and board chairman of the Strathmore Hall Committee.

“We are proud that Rich is continuing the firm’s long-standing commitment to this prestigious organization and to making a difference in the community through his service on the board,” said Paul Tiburzi, managing partner of DLA Piper’s Baltimore office. “Our Baltimore lawyers are actively involved with numerous organizations that benefit the local community, and we look forward to Rich’s many contributions to the BSO in his new role.”

In addition to furthering the orchestra’s growth as a world-renowned artistic institution, Levine will help support the BSO’s programs to give back to the local community. One such innovative initiative is OrchKids, a year-round after-school program that provides music education, instruments and tutoring to Baltimore’s neediest youth at no cost.

At DLA Piper, Levine focuses his practice on real estate, tax and partnership matters. He has more than 35 years of experience and is particularly well known for his creativity in structuring complex transactions, with specific emphasis on sophisticated tax planning. He has been continuously recognized as a leader in real estate and tax law by Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business

In addition to his role on the BSO board, Levine serves on the board of the Rollins-Luetkemeyer Foundation. He is a fellow of the prestigious American College of Tax Counsel and national co-chairman of the American Law Institute - American Bar Association program “Creative Tax Planning for Real Estate Transactions.”
