Robert H. Bergdolt leads DLA Piper's representation of non-traded, publicly offered real estate investment trusts. Since 1992 Mr. Bergdolt's practice has focused on securities regulations, corporate governance and mergers and acquisitions for traded and non-traded REITs. Over the last five years, Mr. Bergdolt has headed his legal practice's representation with respect to 13 non-traded REIT public offerings, including offerings for programs sponsored by Wells Real Estate Funds, KBS Capital Advisors, Behringer Harvard, Cornerstone Ventures, Phillips Edison – ARC and Resource Real Estate. In 2008, Mr. Bergdolt co-authored "Public Non traded Mortgage REITs – Issues and Opportunities," published in the Journal of Taxation of Financial Products.

He is a frequent speaker at conferences focused on the REIT industry, including NAREIT's Law & Accounting Conference, IMN's non-traded REIT Industry Symposiums and the annual conferences of the Investment Program Association.

Legal 500 names him for his REIT practice, commenting that he "provides valuable expertise in non-traded, publicly offered REITs" and describing him as "a great attorney" and "simply outstanding and very popular with clients." Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business ranks him for his Capital Markets: REITS practice, noting that he "specializes in advising nontraded REITs on all areas of corporate and securities law. Sources say he is 'a pleasure to work with; knowledgeable and an excellent thinker.'"

Mr. Bergdolt also serves as managing partner of DLA Piper's Raleigh, North Carolina office. He is a graduate of Yale Law School and Duke University and is licensed to practice in New York and North Carolina.
