Alan Schwartz Ocio focuses his practice on corporate and commercial transactions in the life science industry. Mr. Schwartz Ocio works with emerging and public life science companies in all aspects of their operations, including licensing, collaborations and partnerships, research and development, clinical trials, manufacturing and supply, and distribution and marketing. He has also represented clients in company formation, venture capital and other equity and debt financing transactions, and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Schwartz Ocio has also worked with clients in the telecommunications, aerospace, and information technology industries.

Prior to joining DLA Piper, Mr. Schwartz Ocio served as the General Counsel of three technology companies. Most recently he was the General Counsel of a San Francisco-based life science investment firm founded by a biotechnology industry pioneer, where he advised on the firm’s life science investments and related transactions. Mr. Schwartz Ocio also provided legal services to the firm’s portfolio companies on all aspects of their day-to-day operations, including licensing, R&D, and collaboration transactions. Prior to that, he was the General Counsel of a Silicon Valley-based optical networking equipment company, and a Washington, D.C.-based high resolution satellite imaging company. From 1997 to 1999, Mr. Schwartz Ocio was an associate at Piper & Marbury (a DLA Piper predecessor firm), where he was a member of the Emerging Growth and Venture Capital practice group. From 1988 to 1997, he practiced law in Washington, D.C. with an international corporate boutique representing private, public, and state-owned clients in a wide range of corporate and commercial transactions, with a particular focus on Latin America.
