Ryan C. Compton is an associate in DLA Piper's Intellectual Property, Trademark, Copyright and Domain Name practice groups. He practices in the areas of trademark, copyright and trade secret law, including domain name and Internet matters. He regularly counsels clients on a variety of intellectual property issues affecting their day-to-day business operations and transactions. He has experience working with diverse clients including multinational and Fortune 500 companies, software and technology companies, pharmaceutical companies and traditional mid-sized retailers and manufacturers.

Mr. Compton's practice encompasses trademark counseling, with an emphasis on the selection, adoption and use of trademarks, domestic and international trademark prosecution and enforcement, and trademark portfolio management. Mr. Compton also assists in litigation matters in the federal courts, as well as inter partes matters before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. In addition, Mr. Compton is experienced in trademark licensing, including the design and implementation of licensing structures to support tax-driven IP holding companies. He also frequently advises clients on brand development and protection and the intellectual property aspects of mergers and acquisitions including due diligence and agreement drafting.

Mr. Compton has extensive experience in the area of online intellectual property protection, including domain name portfolio development and maintenance, online trademark infringement and domain name disputes. He has successfully handled numerous domain name and online trademark infringement disputes through the use of demand letters, efficient settlement and numerous ICANN arbitration proceedings.
