Stanley McDermott III has a widespread national and international litigation and arbitration practice gained in over 30 years of active practice and is co-chair of the Commercial Litigation practice in New York.
Mr. McDermott's practice focuses on the litigation and arbitration of a wide range of sophisticated commercial disputes. He appeared before the United States Supreme Court, numerous US Circuit Courts of Appeals, and many US district courts across the country. He has handled scores of arbitration proceedings before internationally recognized arbitral organizations in the United States and the United Kingdom, under ICC, AAA/ICDR, LCIA, UNCITRAL, ICE, ICSID and other arbitration rules, and likewise scores of ad hoc arbitration proceedings in the United States and overseas, under US, English, and other national laws.
Mr. McDermott has significant experience with civil law regimes, has longstanding admiralty and maritime experience representing a broad cross-section of shipping clients, and frequently advises international clients on non-contentious matters concerning cross-border trade touching the US and numerous overseas countries.
In Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, the respected English research firm Chambers & Partners lists Mr. McDermott for his notable shipping litigation practice, noting his "impressive international client base" and describing him as "an expert in international trade shipping and insurance issues."
