Stephen is Managing Partner of the Abu Dhabi office of DLA Piper where he specialises in construction, projects and project finance. He has broad experience, particularly advising sponsors, lenders and government bodies on infrastructure, transportation, resource, property development and energy projects.

Stephen has advised on many projects in multiple jurisdictions across the Middle East, and South Asia (MESA) region. His major project experience includes advising on power and pipelines; transportation, infrastructure and airports; oil, gas and petrochemicals, resources and mining experience as well as property and commercial developments.

Key experience:
  • Advising on EPCM and construction aspects for aluminium smelter and refinery projects in the UAE aluminium smelter project
  • Advising a Dubai developer on its concession arrangements to out-source various utilities and a major utility service provider on a real estate development in Oman
  • Advising one of the largest resource companies on a $1bn expansion of an Alumina refinery located in Australia
  • Advising government owned entities on aspects of major investment zone and real estate transactions as well as several Abu Dhabi based companies on major property developments
  • Advising the developer on a large scale coal fired power station in Chile and involved in gas fired and solar power projects in the UAE
  • Advised on the Brisbane North South Bypass Tunnel PPP Project (Australia)
  • Advised on the Santos Oyong Gas Field Development (Indonesia)
  • Advised on the BP Guangdong LNG Terminal and Pipeline Project (China)
  • Advised on Commercial and Residential High Rise Building projects (Abu Dhabi, Australia, Hong Kong and China)
  • Advised on Braemar Power Project and Pipelines (Australia)
