Tony is a senior finance partner in DLA Piper and, prior to integration with DLA Piper, was the Chief Executive Officer of DLA Phillips Fox.

Prior to joining DLA Phillips Fox, Tony was Regional Head of Finance for the Middle East and the Managing Partner of the DLA Piper Dubai office. Before that he was a leading finance partner at Mallesons Stephen Jaques in Australia.  

Tony is regarded as one of the leading project finance lawyers in Australia and has extensive experience advising on project and infrastructure finance, energy and resources, PPPs, acquisition finance, international finance and restructuring and workouts.

He has advised banks, sponsors and governments across a wide spectrum of finance, project and infrastructure work.

Tony has been nominated for many years as amongst the world's leading banking, project finance and procurement lawyers in numerous international publications such as Euromoney publications, Chambers and Partners and AsiaLaw.

Tony has also lectured for a number of years in infrastructure and in project finance for the Master of Laws program at the University of Melbourne, Australia.

  • Acting for a bidding consortium for the Mafraq-Ghweifat Highway PPP Project between Abu Dhabi and the border with Saudi Arabia.
  • Acting for the financiers, in the Khandke Wind Farm Project, in the first non-recourse wind farm project financing in India.
  • Acting for China Light and Power in a A$2.45 billion financing for the acquisition of Singapore Power's merchant energy business in Australia and refinancing of the Yallourn coal-fired power station.
  • Acting for the financiers in the $900 million facilities for Duke Energy's Australian gas pipeline projects.
  • Acting for the financiers in the A$5.2 billion limited recourse financing for the creation of the Asciano Group from Toll Holdings.
  • Acting for the financiers in the project financing of the Wagerup Co-generation Power Project by Alinta Limited.
  • Acting for the financiers in the project financings of both phases of the Bluewaters Power Complex, a coal-fired power station.
  • Acting for Energy Developments Limited in the limited recourse financing of seven renewable energy projects in the USA and separately the limited recourse financing of a portfolio of over 20 power projects in Australia.
  • Acting for the financiers in numerous acquisitions of interests in the Cooper Basin gas fields.
  • Acting in Western Australia for a joint venturer on phase II of the North West Shelf LNG project in Western Australia.
  • Acting for the government sponsor in the partial privatisation and financing of the Loy Yang B 2000 MW coal-fired power station in Australia.
  • Acting for the financiers in the privatisation and financing of the Gladstone Coal Fired Power Station in Australia.
  • Acting for the financiers in the project financing for the development of the Burton coal mine.
  • Acting for Incitec Pivot Limited in the A$2.4 billion financing for its acquisition of Dyno Nobel Limited. 
  • Acting for the lenders or sponsors in the financings of numerous wind farms, including Cathedral Rocks, Woolnorth, Studland Bay and Canunda.
  • Acting for bidders, or financiers to bidders, on numerous PPP projects, including the Royal Women's Hospital Project; Melbourne CityLink Toll Road Project; LEAP Defence Forces Accommodation Project; Bonnyrigg Public and Private Housing Project; Barwon Water Project; Southbank TAFE Education Project; Central Highlands Water Reclamation Project; Coliban Water Project; Technical College Project, Oman; NSW Schools Project; and Orange Hospital Project.
  • Acting for the financiers in the financing of the Soul Project (incorporating a 77 storey tower) in Queensland, Australia.
  • Acting for the mezzanine financiers of the Eureka Tower Project, an 89 storey development, in Melbourne, Australia.
  • Acting for the financiers in a financing for the Oil & Natural Gas Commission of India, guaranteed by the Government of India.
  • Acting for the financiers for a multi-currency global revolving credit facility for BHP Billiton Ltd.
  • Acting for financiers or sponsors in:
    • Financing of numerous electricity and gas industry privatisations and/or subsequent sales in Australia and New Zealand.
    • Numerous mining, gas and petroleum financings, assignments and exploration joint ventures.
    • Porgera Gold Project in Papua New Guinea.
    • Financing for the acquisition and redevelopment of seven ports in South Australia.
    • The OK Tedi copper and gold project in Papua New Guinea.
  • Acting on numerous other acquisitions, leveraged financings and property development financings, and many corporate banking facilities.
