Turzi joins DLA Piper's Labor and Employment practice in Washington, DC

Turzi brings more than 17 years of experience; looks to grow practice internationally

Press Release

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) May 15, 2005 – DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary US LLP has announced that Joseph A. Turzi has joined the firm’s Labor and Employment practice group as a partner. He joins DLA Piper from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer Feld LLP. Turzi has more than 17 years of experience representing clients in labor and employment matters.

Over the course of his career, Turzi has established a significant practice advising clients on employment law and labor relations matters, in addition to representing employers in litigation. Among his clients are companies in the manufacturing, finance, entertainment and Native American gaming industries.

Turzi provides strategic counseling to employers facing large scale union “corporate campaigns,” and represents employers in unfair labor practice cases and collective bargaining negotiations under the National Labor Relations Act and the Railway Labor Act. He also has represented employers in litigation under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and state laws governing retaliatory and wrongful discharge claims. Turzi handled the largest case the OSHA has brought against a construction industry employer.

In addition to his time in private practice, he has held senior executive positions in industry. He served as vice president of human resources at RailTex from late 1999 until its acquisition by RailAmerica. He also served as senior vice president of administration and human resources for Production Resource Group, a leading entertainment technology company.

“Joe has significant, senior-level experience and he has established a vibrant practice by cultivating relationships with clients who have grown to trust his advice and guidance,” said Peter S. Pantaleo, Chair of DLA Piper’s Labor and Employment Law Practice Group. “As employers are increasingly facing national and international pressures, it is critical to have capacity and experience that can keep apace of our clients needs.”

“In addition to having experienced counsel and litigators, like Joe, in the D.C. office, we are located near many of the key oversight agencies governing federal employment, including OSHA and the NLRB,” added Ann K. Ford, managing partner of the firm’s Washington office and chair or DLA Piper’s U.S. Trademark, Copyright and Media practice. “Joe’s addition is clearly an instant plus to the D.C. labor and employment practice and his experience working with Native American gaming concerns is of great value to our Government Affairs practice, which also has focused on Native American matters.”

Turzi received a B.S. from Seton Hall University in 1985 and a J.D., with honors, from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 1988.
