People & Communities

Our activities  |  What our community partners say  |  What our people say

Our people are our greatest asset and it is through their time, commitment and enthusiasm that we have been able to develop sustained and vibrant partnerships within many different communities.

Great emphasis is placed on building strong relationships with national and local not-for-profit and charitable organisations. We deliver extensive benefit through targeted donations, fundraising and hands on participation. To demonstrate support for these principles, all of our people are given one day with full pay each year to volunteer for a charitable organisation of their choice.

We also deliver local community benefit through various projects and activities. The most popular projects are team challenges where groups assemble to undertake a valuable community service. Many of these have had an environmental or educational focus such as reclaiming areas of land or making improvements to school facilities.

Our activities

  • nominating an annual charity in each office in the UK towards which the main bulk of fundraising will be donated that year
  • initiating fundraising activities such as pub quizzes, special menus at the staff café, book sales, dress down days, cake-bakes, sponsored runs, auctions and raffles
  • taking part in team challenges that contribute to local community projects (such as making over a children's centre)

What our community partners say

"The support from the DLA Piper team has been fantastic. They've managed to transform a run-down and dreary area into a bright, attractive space."

- Estelle O'Hara, Deputy Head, Sharp Lane Primary School

"I cannot thank you enough for what you have already done, what you are doing and, I know, will do to help drive this project forward. I very much hope that, when the institute is up and running and when the vile Motor Neurone Disease has been conquered, you will be able to say with joy and pride: 'I was a part of that'."

- Jonathon Stone, Chairman, Sheffield Institute Foundation for Motor Neurone Disease

What our people say

"Being Team Leader on the Manchester Cares Challenge was challenging but incredibly rewarding. The end result was worthwhile and the project will benefit the school and the wider community for many years to come."

- Chris Perrin, Solicitor, Manchester

"We are delighted to have been able to support Astrid and establish an international presence for Women Win. We of course wish her a huge amount of success in this valuable international venture and very much look forward to continuing our pro bono relationship."

- Marc Molhuysen, CSR Partner, Amsterdam
