Unprecedented Move by DLA Piper
New Perimeter, a new nonprofit affiliate of DLA Piper LLP, opens new horizons for pro bono efforts by major law firms. Lawyers from the firm’s 67 offices in 28 countries will provide legal support for projects of global concern, including health care, hunger, housing, economic development, law reform and human rights.
Initial Contribution: 13,000 Hours of Billable Time
The response has been enthusiastic: A selection committee named 21 lawyers from more than 100 who applied to work on the three initial projects. Each volunteer will devote 500 to 1,000 hours, and in some cases work full-time, on projects such as those involving AIDS and other devastating diseases, law reform in Kosovo and human rights in Africa.
