John E. Rattigan, Jr. serves as counsel to developers and investors in the acquisition, development, sale, and leasing of large-scale real estate projects.
Among his representative development projects in Boston are the Residences at the Ritz Carlton-Boston Common, the residential condominium at One Charles Street, the office tower at 10 St. James Avenue, the New England Aquarium expansion project, the Park and Garage at Post Office Square, and the recent expansion of South Bay Shopping Center. Current projects include the proposed office tower and hotel in the air rights over South Station, Harvard Law School's new facility in Cambridge, and the mixed-use development of Boston's Fan Pier.
Mr. Rattigan also has extensive experience in the development of facilities in airports, most recently the new Terminal A at Boston's Logan Airport and major new fueling systems at Logan and in Oakland, California. For over 25 years, he has represented banks and investors in a wide variety of real estate loans, acquisitions, and investments.
Mr. Rattigan is a former member of the advisory board of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Center for Real Estate Development and is currently chair of Boston’s Downtown Crossing Partnership, a group of business leaders seeking to create a business improvement district in downtown Boston. In 2001, he served on Mayor Thomas Menino’s Linkage Commission, which proposed revisions to the City of Boston’s linkage requirements for major real estate developments.
In 2002, Mr. Rattigan was elected to the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. The research firm Chambers & Partners cites Mr. Rattigan as one of Boston's best real estate lawyers in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, and has called him him "greatly respected," "groundbreaking and innovative" and "a strong and effective lawyer” and noted that he "stands at the helm of some of the firm's most significant work." He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America for real estate and has been named a Massachusetts Super Lawyer.
