Matthew Lepore is a former United States Department of Justice trial attorney who focuses his practice on trial and appellate work in state and federal courts throughout the country.

Mr. Lepore handles complex legal, scientific, and regulatory challenges faced by large companies, primarily in the area of product liability. Most of these matters are class actions or large-scale coordinated proceedings. For example, in 2007, Mr. Lepore served in a national counsel role in two high-profile multi-district litigations: one for a worldwide pharmaceutical company regarding thousands of claims concerning two of its medications, and another for a leading Canadian pet food manufacturer and its insurance carrier over claims surrounding a contaminated food supply chain that originated in China.

In these and other engagements, Mr. Lepore functions as a litigator and a litigation manager, handling matters in court while supervising and coordinating the work of large teams of attorneys drawn from multiple outside law firms.

While in the Department of Justice, Mr. Lepore was lead counsel for the executive branch of the government on a number of high-profile matters that often received media attention. In federal courts throughout the country, he handled numerous sensitive lawsuits related to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, terrorism, Middle East policies, and various policies of the United States Armed Forces; the nature of these cases required him to have a Top Secret security clearance. Mr. Lepore also served as lead counsel for challenges to the President and his cabinet brought under the Privacy Act, the First Amendment, the Freedom of Information Act, and Title VII. He received the Attorney General’s Special Commendation Award for leading the government’s defense of numerous lawsuits brought by governors and senators challenging the President’s decision to close and realign military installations around the country.

• Representation of a leading Canadian pet food manufacturer and its insurer in cross-border, coordinated class action litigation in state and federal courts in multiple jurisdictions alleging claims stemming from United States and Canadian recalls of numerous pet foods due to alleged product contamination.
• Counsel for the world’s largest tobacco company in a variety of matters, including a range of projects designed to enhance trial advocacy and litigation theme development, as well as individual matters in Florida.
• Ongoing representation of a leading pharmaceutical company in major drug litigation related to two popular prescription anti-inflammatory medications. As national counsel, he was responsible for all aspects and phases of litigation as well as the management and oversight of outside counsel throughout the country. Currently he is preparing for several trials over the coming year.
• Provide risk management and strategic business advice to a leading pharmaceutical company.
